Becca's Story

We all experience "dukkha" (or suffering) - whether it's physical pain, mental anguish, or the dissatisfaction inherent in living a life of impermanence. In the process of dealing with dukkha, we strengthen our resiliency, our resolve and ourselves. Much like the ancient Japanese art form kintsugi, in which broken pottery is repaired by lacquering it in gold to make it more valuable, we make ourselves more valuable in the process of recovering from dukkha.

In my early 20s, I experienced my first crisis of purpose. I hated my career in broadcast news and public relations, questioned my marriage and felt spiritually depleted. Through an innate need to heal, I discovered yoga and studied a multitude of modalities.

In my late twenties, the stress of having two children a year apart and the demands of graduate school led me to holistic nutrition and other forms of mindful movement.

Then, at age 32, when I almost lost my third child during childbirth, my trauma led me to become a doula.

Ten years later, our family was faced with two significant tragedies, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During those years, I metaphorically went through buckets of gold lacquer with each experience fostering a growth mindset and enhancing my self-worth.

Please know in retelling my story I by no means believe simply doing yoga or eating clean will solve everything. My journey was not easy or linear and when it comes to healing there is no one size fits all, no simple fixes and no guarantee that what works today will work tomorrow. I did learn, however, that impermanence pertains to both the good and the bad and "this too shall pass" has been my mantra many times.

The purpose of R.E.COVERY | curated healing is to help others work through the dukkha in their lives through effective and vetted holistic and integrative modalities. R.E.COVERY | curated healing doesn't believe there is a specific RX for what ails our bodies, hearts or minds but does believe that through discussion, exploration and community we can collectively make this moment better.

I wrote "We Begin" therapeutically to remind myself and others that despite everything healing is always possible.
